Official Contest Rules

A)                 The contestant(s) in the Basketball (2) out of (3) Half-Court Contest must be randomly selected by a method approved by Prize Indemnity Underwriters Inc.

A random draw will take place at 4:00 pm on the following dates, November 30th, December 31st, February 18th, and March 16th. The winner of the qualification draw will be contacted by phone and instructed to meet a representative at Credit Union Place to arrange to participate in that evenings `Shoot to Win Contest’. Should that person not be available, another random draw will take place and the for mentioned procedure will be repeated until a random winner is available to make the game.

B)                 It is agreed and understood that the Insured attempts will take place at Credit Union Place, Summerside Prince Edward Island.

C)                 The following restrictions apply to the administration of this event.

 

a)                  The Contestant(s) are not allowed any practice attempts at the Court where the attempts will take place at any time prior to the Insured attempts.

b)                  Each contestant(s) Basketball (2) out of (3) Half-Court Shots must be made from a distance of no less than forty-three (43) feet. 

c)                  While attempting the (2) out of (3) Half-Court Shot, each of the ball(s) must be released prior to the Contestant stepping on or crossing the line being shot from.

d)                  All Basketball shots must pass completely through the hoop on the fly in order to be considered a qualifying Basket once the shot is released.  The ball may not come in contact with the arena floor or any part of the ceiling and may not tip, bounce or deflect off of any surface, person or object (except the backboard or rim) prior to passing through the hoop.

 

 

e)                  Each contestant(s) will be allowed to participate in this Contest on only one (1) occasion.  No contestant may be selected to participate in this Contest more than once.

 

D)                 The following restrictions apply to the equipment used in this event:

 

a)                  The basketball used must be an official NBA, NCAA or official High School men’s basketball which meets the following specifications as outlined in the respective official rule book (minimum diameter:  9.4 inches:  minimum pressure:  7.5 PSI:  maximum pressure:  8.6 PSI)

b)                  The distance between the top face of the basket rim and the surface of the floor can be no less than ten (10) feet.  The basket rim must also meet the standards and specifications as outlined in the official rule book (inside diameter:  18.5 inches)

 

E)                  The following classes of people shall be ineligible to participate.

i)                    current or former professional or semi-professional basketball players;

ii)                  current or former college, university or Olympic basketball players who have played at that level within the past six (6) years.

 

            F)         There will be an Official named by the Insured to adjudicate this Contest.

 

F)                  It is the responsibility of the Insured to ensure that the adjudicating Official and all parties, including the contestant(s) are fully aware of the Terms and Conditions of this Insurance.

 

G)                 Official Judge Affidavit Form will be completed prior to Contest.

 

H)                 The insured attempts must be videotaped in full.  The videotape must show the Contestant releasing the ball prior to his or her feet crossing the line being shot from as well as the full and complete path of the ball until it touches the ground.

 

I)                    If the actual conditions of the Insured Event differ in any way from those represented by the Insured to Prize Indemnity Underwriters Inc., the Insurer incurs no liability unless such changes have been approved in writing by Prize Indemnity Underwriters Inc. prior to the commencement of Insured Event.

 

                                 How to Enter:

 

Everyone wishing to enter “Shoot to Win” will receive equal availability.

Contestants may choose to enter at www.journalpioneer.com  and click on the shoot to Win button.

Contestants also have the option of having their name entered at the “Shoot to Win Kiosk” located at Credit Union Place.

The Small Print

The contest is open to all Canadian residents. There are no age restrictions in place for the contests running November 30th, December 31st, February 18th, and March 16th. A minor can compete and win the prize, but it will be put in trust until they are the age of majority.

The Journal Pioneer, Transcontinental Media G.P and their respected affiliates, directors, officers, agents and immediate families are not eligible to enter the contest.

Upon entering the contest, The Journal Pioneer reserves the right to forward applicant future contesting & communications.

All personal information collected solely for this contest is the property of the Journal Pioneer. This information will not be sold or given away for any other use without your consent.

Chances of winning are dependent on the number of people participating in the online entry and the Kiosk entries.
